When NOT To Get A Facial!

Facials can leave your skin glowing, refreshed, and hydrated — but there are certain times when getting one can actually do more harm than good. If your skin is healing or extra sensitive, it’s important to give it time before booking a treatment.

Here are some of the biggest times you should avoid getting a facial:

• When you’re sunburned — Sunburned skin is already inflamed and damaged. Steam, exfoliation, and active products can make redness, peeling, and irritation even worse. Wait until your skin is fully healed before scheduling a facial.

• Right after Botox, tox, or filler — It’s best to avoid facials immediately after injections. Facial massage and pressure can interfere with results or increase swelling and irritation. Most providers recommend waiting at least 1–2 weeks depending on the treatment.

• After facial surgery or cosmetic procedures — If you recently had laser treatments, microneedling, chemical peels, or any type of facial surgery, your skin needs time to recover. Getting a facial too soon can disrupt healing and increase sensitivity.

• After having spots, moles, or lesions removed by a dermatologist — Whether you had a biopsy, mole removal, or cryotherapy treatment, avoid facials until the area is completely healed. Exfoliation and friction can irritate healing skin and increase the risk of scarring.

• If you have a cold sore — Cold sores are contagious and can easily spread during a facial. Treatments involving steam or massage may also irritate the area and delay healing.

• Immediately after waxing or threading — Freshly waxed skin is more delicate and vulnerable to irritation. Facials right after hair removal can cause redness, sensitivity, and even skin lifting. It’s best to wait at least 48 hours.

The bottom line: facials are meant to improve your skin, not stress it out. If your skin is healing or sensitive, waiting a little longer can help you avoid irritation and get better results from your treatment later on.
